Georgian Jewellery (Circa 1714 - 1840)

Georgian jewellery encompassed most of the 18th century and  the beginning of the 19th century. Georgian jewellery is very collectable world wide, all hand made and usually consists of natures designs with birds, hearts,  flowers leaves insects and feathers, most pieces were encrusted with diamonds and gemstones and the type of metal was of  secondary importance. The pieces set with gemstones were very unique and entirely handmade. Today not much Georgian Jewellery is around, it is becoming increasingly collectable, the early mourning jewellery is from this period

Sentimental jewellery is occasioned by a very wide range of feeling and conditions. Affection for family and friends, the passion of lovers, marriage, loyalty to a monarch, religious devotion and the death of loved ones.
Mourning Jewellery:- memento mori (means Remember that you must Die) early jewellery was decorated with skeletons, coffins, skulls, worms and crossbones all of which were a form of remembrance of deceased loved ones. Often these items contained fragments of the deceased loved ones hair Although very macabre to us today these pieces now are extremely rare and highly collectable.
